Jessica Litman teaches copyright law, Internet law, trademarks and unfair competition law, and torts.

Professor Litman clerked for Judge Betty Bins Fletcher on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1984, she became an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Law School. She joined the Wayne faculty in 1990. She has also been a visiting professor at NYU Law School and American University’s Washington College of Law.

Professor Litman’s scholarship focuses on copyright law, Internet law, and trademark law. She has published extensively on the history of copyright legislation, and on the application of copyright law to a world in which networked digital technology is pervasive.

Litman is an editor of I/S JOURNAL OF LAW & POLICY, and serves on the advisory boards of Public Knowledge, http://www.publicknowledge.org, and Cyberspace Law Abstracts, http://www.ssrn.com/update/lsn/lsn_cyber-law.html.

She is a Senior Visiting Fellow for the British Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration on the Dependability of Computer-Based Systems, http://www.dirc.org.uk/, and a member of the legal experts network of Carnegie-Mellon University’s Institute for the Study of Information, Technology and Society, http://insites.heinz.cmu.edu:8080/insites.

Professor Litman lives in Ann Arbor with her family and their three cats.
