This article is very much an introduction to the topic of applying Semantics to Information Systems. We surveyed the technology stack from underlying disciplines to Applications and Services, and we described at a high level how it is likely to change five broad categories of information systems.
Most of the earlier difficult problems in information systems have been solved: problems related to scales, performance and correctness. Many of our future challenges belong to the realm of how we apply meaning to the information in our systems.
